Indeed, a thought-provoking statistic made Dr. Sachin Maskey think of doing something about this fact rather than just reading! And, he decided to begin with the Cure Blindness program, one of those several programs which Dhana Yoga Foundation will be working on.

The aim of DYF is simple yet serious and that is to cure blindness within Nepal under its program by the name of “Cure Blindness”.

Why is it necessary?

Globally, it is estimated that approximately 1.3 billion people live with some form of distance or near vision impairment. With regards to distance vision, 188.5 million have vision impairment, 217 million have moderate to severe vision impairment, and 36 million people are blind. According to the latest assessment, cataract is responsible for 51% of world blindness, which represents about 20 million people (2010) – Source WHO

The figures are alarming with 62.2% of blindness  caused just because of cataracts in Nepal (Source: iapb.org) This must bother you as well that despite living in the 21st century people are unable to avail themselves of medical facilities and the right consultation which can transform their life? Yes, Cataracts is a treatable disease but the common man is unaware of it and those who are aware do not have sufficient funds to get themselves treated hence they are leading the lives of a blind…

Only with a minimum of $50, we can cure blindness…

What we are doing?

DYF is doing these mentioned activities:
  1. Free Community  Eye Screening
  2. Free Eye drops and other eye medicine
  3. Free eyeglass distribution
  4. School eye screening
DYF will be partnering with the local hospitals in Nepal and will be conducting free cataract surgery in underserved areas of Nepal. DYF will conduct eye screening in remote areas of Nepal to identify the patient with cataracts. Once identified the patient will be referred to the hospital where free cataract surgery will be performed on them. DYF will fund all the costs associated with cataract surgery including cataract screening, medication, and post-op care.

Just 15 minutes of a procedure can give new life to a blind

How we are doing?

DYF is associating with the local facilities, hospitals, medical institutes, and even clinics that are willing to join hands with Dhana Yoga Foundation in their mission to cure blindness. Under the Cure Blindness Program, we are seeking help from volunteers who can come forward and work with us. Cataract surgeries for curing blindness will be done at the local facilities of Nepal.

Your small contribution of only $50 can make a blind see this world

At the grassroots level?

DYF will be able to conduct eye screening camps for the underprivileged people of Nepal, at a regular interval of every 4-6 months. In these camps, the aim is to identify the people who are blind due to cataracts, and then the operation can be planned and performed for the low-income group people.

This is an ongoing process and DYF will be collaborating with several other hospitals in entire Nepal to provide a blind-free life to the underprivileged people of Nepal. Further, for the screening of eye blindness and cataracts, DYF will associate with the schools, where they can visit and screen the eyesight quality of the kids and timely diagnosis can be made for fighting blindness.

“Close your eyes and think for a moment that you are not able to see again. Imagine life without sight… yes, it’s painful to imagine, right!

Let’s transform lives by giving them a chance to see the world again...
